Taylor and His Scientific Management System: Legendary Narratives and ‘Scientific’ EvaluationsFrederick W. Taylor is seen as the pioneer, even founder, or father of management science, and the scientific management system he developed is taught almost everywhere in the world under the name of Taylorism. However, while this is done, scientific evaluation of Taylor’s studies towards developing the scientific management system is rarely made under the consideration of the period he lived, original data, and sources. With this study, to better understand how and under what conditions the scientific management system spreading as Taylorism was developed, we seek to evaluate the research and the studies done by Taylor in terms of originality, accuracy and consistency based on the accessible electronic archives, correspondences, and academic literature. The evaluations made in this regard lead to an opinion that it would be more appropriate and useful to approach Taylor’s scientific management studies with caution in terms of originality, accuracy, and consistency, at least to conduct further examinations and research concerning these issues.

A Qualitative Study on Explanatory Facts about the Work-Life Balance of Primary School TeachersThis study aims to explain the facts about the work-life balance of primary school teachers. A participant group consisting of primary school teachers and their spouses working in a public primary school and who volunteered to participate in the study constituted the sample of the study. The data of the research, which was carried out using the qualitative research design, were collected through individual and focus group interviews using a semi-structured interview form. In addition, the data set was expanded by examining the researcher’s observation notes and some documents. The obtained data were subjected to content analysis. The findings show that primary school teachers have difficulty in maintaining work-life balance and they experience work-family conflict. It has been determined that primary school teachers who strongly identify with their professions place more emphasis on their job-related roles than their family roles.

Understanding the Relationship Between Adaptation and Selection Processes Through the Lenses of Organizational TheoriesThere are different approaches to analyzing the relationship between organization and environment in the scope of organization theory. This review examines the environmental relationship of organizations in the scope of adaptation and selection processes in organizational theories. Specifically, we focus on four organizational theories: population ecology, institutional theory, resource dependence, and contingency theory. First, we explain the main assumptions and criticisms of the four theories. We also outline how adaptation and selection dynamics influence organizations in their environment. Then, we examine complementary aspects of the adaptation and selection processes based on organizational theories. Lastly, we discuss the benefits and limitations of the integrated adaptation and selection process and provide insight for future studies.
