Reading Neoliberal Governmentality through a Novel: “People in the Office”Today, it has been argued that it is not adequate to address the organizational
power from the perspective of culture management and resistance to it from the
perspective of cynicism. Now the power that depends on ensuring employees’
commitment to organizations is weakening, and neoliberal governmental power,
which makes employees compete against each other, blurs the distinction
between “work” and “non-work” domains, and is based on the “precarity” of
all life, comes to the forefront. Until now, the neoliberal governmentality has
not been adequately and comprehensively examined in organization studies
within the framework of daily/embedded interactions. This study intends to
provide an insight into the manifestation of neoliberal governmentality in daily
interactions in the workplace. In this regard, the main research question is as
follows: “How does neoliberal governmentality manifest itself in daily interactions
within today’s working life?”. Novels provide in-depth information in addressing
daily interactions. Using a Turkish novel (Ofistekiler: Bir Plaza Romanı [People in the
Office: A Novel of Plaza]) about the current working life as the main data source,
the article presents a white-collar woman employee cannot market herself in an
environment of neoliberal governmentality and keeps silent about non-genuine
working practices. It shows how neoliberal governmental power reveals itself in
both daily interactions and employees’ competitions with one another.

The Analysis of Strategy Perspectives of Long-Lived Turkish BusinessesThis study aims to analyze the strategic perspective of long-lived Turkish
businesses, based on Whittington’s (2001) classification of strategic management
schools. In the scope of the research, nine long-lived Turkish businesses were
examined, foundations of which varied from 1807 to 1893. As a result of the
analysis, it is observed that the strategy perspectives of the long-lived businesses
are positioned closer to the Processual Approach. Out of the eight dimensions of the strategy perspectives, firms only diverge along the leadership dimension,
whereas they cluster on similar positions for the remaining seven dimensions.
The results from the empirical analysis lay the foundations of further research,
which may question whether firms operating in the Turkish context have their
own strategy perspective or not.

The Effects of Technological Spillovers from Foreign Direct Investment on the Internationalization of Local FirmsThe aim of this study is to examine both the technology spillovers from foreign
direct investment (FDI) and the indirect effects of FDI intensity containing
technology spillovers on the internalization of local firms from the point of view
of Mathew’s LLL Model and Dunning’s Eclectic paradigm. Moreover, it examines
the moderator effects of the ownership structure of FDI and technology gap on
the technology spillovers. The observation unit of this study is 95 FDI in Turkish
Manufacturing Industry. The findings show that technology spillover has a
partially positive effect on patent intensity while it has a negative effect on the
local labour productivity. There is an important moderating effect of technology
gap on technology spillovers form FDIs. On the other hand, there is a limited
indirect effect of patent intensity on the relationship between the FDI intensity of
industry and the internalization local firms.
